A Night of Honor, Community, and Generational Impact.

The Players Alliance returned to Citi Field for one of the most meaningful nights of the season, the New York Mets Black Legacy Night. Black Legacy Night is an evening dedicated to honoring the contributions of Black players to the Mets organization and investing in the next generation carrying that legacy forward.

Honoring the Legends

The night centered on three former Mets who left an indelible mark on the franchise: Doc Gooden, Daryl Boston, and Butch Huskey. Their careers represented an era of Mets baseball that resonated deeply with the city of New York and the broader Black baseball community. On this night, they were celebrated not just for what they accomplished on the field, but for who they are to the culture of the game.

Equip the Future

The celebration extended beyond recognition. Through TPA’s Equip the Future program, Doc Gooden, Daryl Boston, and Butch Huskey joined current Mets players like Marcus Semien to pour directly into youth players in attendance, sharing their personal baseball journeys, the lessons the game taught them, and the paths that shaped their careers. For the young players in the room, it was a rare and powerful moment of access, inspiration, and connection across generations.

The Flame Keeper Award

TPA presented the New York Mets organization with this year’s Flame Keeper Award, recognizing their overwhelming support of TPA’s Jackie Robinson Day campaign. Marcus Semien, a long-time supporter to The Players Alliance, accepted the recognition on behalf of the team. The Flame Keeper award honors the team giving and their commitment our mission.
